The Club of Rome Communications Fellowship 2026 is a seven-month professional development opportunity designed for early-career communications professionals from Africa and other regions of the Global South. The fellowship focuses on sustainability, systems thinking, and global development issues, with the goal of increasing diverse voices in international sustainability conversations.

The fellowship is primarily remote, allowing fellows to work from their home country, with one supported trip to meet members of the Club of Rome team. Successful fellows work closely with an experienced communications team and gain practical skills in explaining complex global challenges to non-specialist audiences through digital platforms and multimedia content.

This opportunity is well suited to Nigerian and African applicants interested in sustainability communication, science journalism, digital storytelling, and global policy engagement.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a resident of a country in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, or Asia-Pacific
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, journalism, or a related field, or be a current student or graduate of a science journalism programme
  • Have some experience writing about sustainability, systems thinking, or scientific topics for general audiences, or experience producing multimedia content on related issues
  • Demonstrate strong written and spoken English skills
  • Show the ability to understand and communicate complex research or systems-based ideas clearly
  • Have experience with or interest in social media, video, photography, or other multimedia formats
  • Align with the values and mission of the Club of Rome

Benefits and Support

Selected fellows receive professional, financial, and practical support, including:

  • A seven-month remote fellowship placement
  • A modest stipend adjusted based on the fellow’s country of residence
  • Full-time engagement of 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Ten days of paid leave during the fellowship period
  • One funded trip to meet members of the Club of Rome team
  • Hands-on mentoring and experience across multiple communication channels, including websites, media outreach, events, and social media

Fellowship Responsibilities

During the fellowship, participants contribute to a range of communication activities, such as:

  • Publishing and updating website content
  • Assisting with media outreach materials
  • Supporting event communications and coverage
  • Creating and editing multimedia content
  • Managing and contributing to social media platforms

The fellowship welcomes candidates who are comfortable working across different communication formats and platforms.

Application Process

The application process is competitive and fully online:

  1. Prepare all required application materials in English
  2. Complete the online application form before the deadline
  3. Submit the application with all requested information

Incomplete applications, applications submitted in languages other than English, or applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

Important Dates

Application deadline: 20 February 2026 at 23:59 CET
Fellowship duration: Seven months in 2026

Applicants are encouraged to apply early due to high competition.
