The Global Africa Gateway (GAG) Summer Internship is a prestigious collaboration between The Africa Center and Afreximbank designed to bridge the professional gap between the African diaspora and the continent. This initiative places highly skilled individuals into transformative roles across various African nations. For 2026, the program focuses on creating economic and cultural conduits, allowing participants to contribute to Africa’s development while gaining high-level professional experience in sectors like finance, law, and infrastructure.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be United States citizens of African descent.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a full-time graduate program or have graduated within the last six months.
  • Applicants must be between the ages of 22 and 35 at the time of application.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other African Union languages (French, Arabic, Portuguese, or Kiswahili) is an advantage.
  • A valid passport with at least six months of validity beyond the internship dates is mandatory.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest in establishing professional ties with the African continent.

Benefits

  • A comprehensive stipend of $10,000 to cover travel, lodging, and living expenses.
  • Placement in reputable public or private sector organizations across Africa.
  • Exposure to high-level professional networks and mentorship.
  • Hands-on experience in priority fields such as finance, commodities, and NGOs.
  • Full-time professional engagement for a duration of 8 to 12 weeks.

  1. Prepare a 1,000-word personal statement detailing your interest in working on the continent.
  2. Update your professional CV or resume.
  3. Secure two professional or academic references.
  4. Ensure you have a digital copy of your valid U.S. passport.
  5. Attend the virtual info session on February 13, 2026, for additional guidance.
  6. Submit the complete application via the official portal by the deadline.
