The Small Business Champions initiative is a joint competition organized by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the International Trade Center (ITC), and the World Trade Organization (WTO). The 2026 theme focuses on “Small Businesses and Human Rights,” seeking innovative proposals from organizations that help Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) navigate and implement human rights due diligence. This global call is essential for African trade associations and NGOs looking to integrate ethical standards into local business practices.

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to private sector organizations, trade associations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
  • Proposals must specifically target the needs of MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises).
  • Submitted projects must focus on raising awareness or providing practical tools for human rights in business.
  • Multi-stakeholder collaborations involving different sectors are highly encouraged.
  • Applicants must demonstrate how their initiative will have a measurable impact on small businesses.

Benefits

  • Global recognition at the highest level of international trade (WTO/ITC/ICC).
  • Invitation to present the winning proposal at a high-level WTO event.
  • International visibility through the platforms of the WTO MSME Group and its partners.
  • Networking opportunities with global policy makers and trade experts.
  • Potential to scale the winning initiative through international support networks.

Application Steps

  1. Develop a project proposal (max 3 pages) that outlines a practical initiative for MSMEs.
  2. Ensure the proposal explains the project’s objectives, timeline, and expected impact.
  3. Include details on how the organization will measure the success of the initiative.
  4. Submit the proposal in PDF format via the official WTO submission email.
  5. Monitor the WTO and ICC websites for the winner announcement in June.

Deadlines

  • The deadline for submissions is May 4, 2026.
