The European Cross-Border Grants 2026 provide funding for investigative journalism projects that promote collaboration across countries in Europe. The program is designed to strengthen independent journalism, support cross-border reporting, and encourage innovative storytelling on issues of European relevance.

This grant is ideal for Nigerian and African journalists working with European media partners or seeking to contribute to stories with a cross-border impact. Recipients gain access to resources that enable in-depth reporting, networking with international colleagues, and experimentation with new investigative methods.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Form a cross-border team of at least two professional journalists and/or independent media organizations
  • Teams must represent at least two different countries in Europe
  • At least 80% of the requested funding should go to journalists or media from EU countries
  • Additional team members from outside Europe may be included if relevant to the story
  • Projects must focus on original, in-depth reporting with clear relevance for European audiences

Benefits

Successful applicants will receive:

  • Funding from a total budget of €1,120,000, distributed over six application rounds (€280,000 per round)
  • Support for cross-border investigative projects that prioritize originality and depth
  • Opportunities to network and collaborate with international journalists and media outlets
  • Recognition for high-quality investigative reporting in Europe

Application Process

To apply for the European Cross-Border Grants:

  1. Assemble a qualified cross-border journalism team with members from at least two European countries
  2. Develop a detailed investigative project proposal with clear relevance to European audiences
  3. Allocate at least 80% of the budget to EU-based journalists or media organizations
  4. Submit the application via the official grant portal before the deadline

Applications are evaluated based on originality, investigative depth, cross-border collaboration, and journalistic impact.
