HelpAge International is recruiting for a Regional Programme Officer in 2026 to support its mission of improving the lives of older people across the African continent. This role involves coordinating community-based programs that address health, social protection, and emergency response for the elderly. As the aging population in Africa grows, this position is critical for advocating for policies that ensure dignity and security in old age. For Nigerian social workers and development professionals, this is a chance to work with a leading global NGO dedicated to a frequently overlooked demographic.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates should possess the following:

  • A university degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, International Development, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in program management within the NGO sector.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the specific challenges facing older people in the African context.
  • Experience in grant writing and managing donor-funded projects (e.g., USAID, EU, or UN).
  • Strong networking skills to engage with government ministries and local community leaders.

Benefits

The position offers a comprehensive employment package:

  • A competitive salary commensurate with experience in the international development sector.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage for the staff member and their immediate family.
  • Generous annual leave and professional development allowances.
  • Opportunity to travel across the region to oversee program implementation.
  • The chance to contribute to impactful research and advocacy that shapes national aging policies.

Application Steps

Follow these steps to apply for this vacancy:

  • Access the HelpAge International recruitment portal via their official website.
  • Download the full Job Description (JD) to ensure your experience aligns with the core competencies.
  • Prepare a cover letter that specifically addresses your passion for working with the elderly.
  • Upload your CV and cover letter in PDF format through the online portal.
  • Ensure you include the reference number (HelpAge-18) in your application subject line.

Deadlines

  • Application Deadline: February 28, 2026.
  • Interview Phase: March 2026.
  • Expected Start Date: May 2026.
