Application Deadline: May 25, 2026 (23:00 EAT / GMT+3)

Applications are now open for the 2026 African Union (AU) Food and Energy Sovereignty Challenge, a continental innovation initiative aimed at accelerating African-led solutions in food and energy systems.

The challenge is designed to identify and support Africa’s most promising startups, SMEs, and deep-tech innovators building scalable technologies capable of strengthening the continent’s food and energy independence.

Organized by African Union, the programme seeks to mobilize a new generation of “Sovereignty Builders” — innovators with the technical capacity to transform breakthrough ideas into large-scale industrial solutions for Africa’s future.

About the Challenge

The AU Food and Energy Sovereignty Challenge is a large-scale industrial mobilization programme focused on accelerating African technological innovation across two critical sectors:

Focus Areas

Track A: Innovation for Food Sovereignty

Solutions addressing agricultural productivity, food security, climate-smart farming, supply chains, soil health, and sustainable food systems.

Track B: Innovation for Energy Sovereignty

Innovations focused on renewable energy, energy access, clean technologies, power systems, and sustainable industrial energy solutions.

The challenge is targeted at companies with proven technologies that are ready for industrial scaling and market expansion across Africa.
